Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA)
Our Mission Statement
To increase awareness and prevention of Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA) within families, communities, schools and Student-Athletes through education, healthcare screenings as well as donating automatic electronic defibrillators to schools that cannot afford them.
One student-athlete will pass away from Sudden Cardiac Arrest every three days
Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA) is the leading cause of death in the U.S., taking the lives of 356,000 people annually. But what most parents don’t know is that SCA is the #1 killer of student athletes and contributes to the #2 medical cause of death among youth under age 25.
The statistical update is produced using the most recent data available compiled by the AHA, the National Institutes of Health, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and other government sources. OHCA statistics are derived primarily from the Resuscitation Outcomes Consortium (ROC) Epistry, a prospective population-based registry of EMS-attended calls for patients with OHCA in eight U.S. and three Canadian regions from 2005-2015, and the ongoing Cardiac Arrest Registry to Enhance Survival (CARES), at Emory University School of Medicine, which works with the CDC; American Heart Association’s newly released Heart Disease and Stroke Statistics – 2018 Update.
