Causes of Sudden Cardiac Arrest
The probable causes of Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA) in high school students is confusing because there may be unseen signs or symptoms. However, as a result of years of research, there are some signs that can now be detected that may lead to SCA.
Wolff-Parkinson-White Syndrome
As a result of an extra electrical pathway in the heart, tachycardia (abnormally fast heartbeat) can ensue. This is one of the most common cause for abnormal heartbeat in children.
Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy
Abnormal thickening of the heart wall. The resulting condition causes the ineffective flow of blood through the heart. In addition, heart failure, possible arrhythmia can lead to SCA.
Congenital Heart Defects
Congenital heart defects are abnormalities of the heart that you may have been born with. The warning signs for these abnormalities may not seem apparent until later in life. Examples of these defects could be heart valve abnormalities, heart vascular abnormalities as well as heart muscle abnormalities.
Long QT Syndrome (LQTS)
A problem related to the electrical signal in the heart. It causes dangerous and uncontrollable arrhythmia (irregular heartbeats).
